REVELATION 5 - THE SEALS - "HaChatmavot"
Description
When we consider Yohanan's opening verse in chapter 5, we see Hashem holding a book with seven seals. While the English translation uses the word seal (Chatmavot – חׂתָמוֹת), the Hebrew word is slightly different. Throughout the Tanakh (Old Testament), we find that God uses a signet ring to distinguish his people. The use of the ring or signet represented a seal of royalty and nobility. Unauthorized breaking this mark, which sealed a document, law, or decree, would lead to death. Only the king's agents were authorized to carry the document, and only authorized receivers could open it.
